Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao: Who Did Terence Crawford Exclude From His Top-5 List?

Multi-division world champion Terence Crawford is one of the few active titlists who can possibly call it a day with his unbeaten record being intact. Although Crawford also has a few tough tests ahead, the American star has already cemented his spot in the list of elites.

‘Bud’ currently has the WBO welterweight belt around his shoulder. The 34-year-old has held it for over three years now and doesn’t look like he will lose it anytime soon. Hence, he is an elite in the eyes of the masses. But who were the elites who inspired Terence Crawford?

Ahead of his career-defining win against Amir Khan in 2019, Terence Crawford revealed his five best boxers of all time. It’s hard to put all the legendary names in a spot of only five and ‘Bud’ had to exclude many. However, he justified his choice by revealing a stellar set of legends.

Years back, in an interview with independent.co.uk, ‘Bud’ picked his list of favorite boxers from various eras. His list went- Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Floyd Mayweather, and Pernell Whitaker. Interestingly, ‘Bud’ picked his best from the US soil only.

With three heavyweight personas on his list, Crawford picked Mayweather and Whittaker from his own weight classes to close off his list. Amid all the names, only ‘TBE’ Floyd Mayweather has been undefeated all his career.

If Crawford can do it, he might slide into the G.O.A.T. debate forever.

Among the names was the undefeated Floyd Mayweather

A mega-fight between Crawford and Mayweather could have been electrifying. However, they were never on a collision course, and this fight was never discussed. While Crawford has hailed Mayweather as one of his favorites, he has received similar treatment from the other side. In a chat with ESPN, Mayweather had praised Terence Crawford as a pound-for-pound star.

While comparing his former rival Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, ‘Money’ said, “Canelo done something amazing when he became light-heavyweight champ.”

“I didn’t even see him going up that heavy, and he did that.”

“But, as of right now, I have to put Terence Crawford as No1.” (H/T:- The Sun)

A three-division champion, Crawford’s 37-0 record falls short before Mayweather’s five-division championships and 50-0 pro record. However, Crawford has time on his side to potentially equal Mayweather’s numbers.
