WWE Legend Paul Heyman Gives His Brutally Honest Views on AEW

AEW has sure stirred some competition in the North American region of the pro-wrestling business. For the first time since Ted Turner’s WCW, and Paul Heyman’s ECW, WWE has got legitimate competition.

Heyman is no stranger to being a completion to WWE. He in fact started his own wrestling promotion called Extreme Championship Wrestling, aka ECW which started a cultural phenomenon.

However, that was way back two decades ago. Currently, Heyman works as an on-screen talent for WWE, but has also held corporate positions in the company before. Hence, what are his thoughts on AEW is something fans have always wondered, until now.

Paul Heyman thinks AEW is a viable addition to pro-wrestling

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani for BT Sport, Paul Heyman shared his honest thoughts on AEW. Paul Heyman candidly said that they are doing a good job and are keeping the WWE on its toes.

He said, “They’re viable. They are a viable entity, and God bless them for being there.”

While Heyman appreciated AEW, he did add an interesting point. Heyman explained that his comments mean absolutely nothing, irrespective of whether they’re good or bad.

He said, “I’m not the audience, so it doesn’t… my personal opinion on their product… if I were to sit here and go, ‘My God, they’re great!’… who cares what I think? But that’s just a personal opinion.”

Heyman continued, “They’re not geared towards me and if I sat there and went, ‘Oh my God, they suck, they’re horrible!’… I don’t think they should care about that either.”

AEW is only two years old into pro wrestling, but they’ve generated quite a buzz. In fact, it’s safe to say, AEW is a real threat or alternative to Vince McMahon‘s company after WCW/ECW’s demise.

This war between WWE and AEW will get even bigger with more passing time and the wrestling fans could catch a glimpse of the late 90s’ infamous Monday Night Wars (provided AEW Dynamite moves to Monday Nights).
