Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman took to her Instagram Stories to share a video of her youngest son Cameron who has overcome barriers to succeed in further education.

Cameron, 24, graduated from the University of Dundee after earning his Master’s degree in animation and video effects.

She said: ‘We never dared to dream this day might come when he graduated with a first-class honours last year and now a Masters degree in Animation and VFX.

‘Thank you Dundee for giving him all that you have over the last year. Amazing.’

This week, Carol, 60, who is also mum to daughter Katie, 30, also shared a shot with her son as they prepared for his big day.

The maths whizz wrote: ‘My Cameron and I on our way to Dundee for his Master’s Graduation tomorrow.’

It’s a particularly momentous occasion for Cameron, who fought to receive an education as he battled ‘severe’ special educational needs.

Back in September, he thanked the public for their support in a heartfelt video as he graduated after being ‘bullied’ for having special educational needs.

In a video shared by mum Carol, Cameron said: ‘Thank you, everyone, for all your words of encouragement, it really means a lot to hear, especially from people who have gone through similar things in life.

‘I never thought my actions would mean so much to so many people. In the same way, I never thought I would get this far in life but that’s exactly what pushed me to do it.’

He continued: ‘After being told and shown that I would never be able to achieve anything of significance, I started to believe it but one emotion kept me from giving up: spite. The drive to spite all who told me I would fail, but most importantly to spite myself.‘

‘I will keep on improving and achieving things that I never thought I’d be able to despite the past version of myself. I never thought I could. So, if you doubt yourself, then just imagine the satisfaction of proving everyone and yourself wrong because, I will tell you right now, it is very satisfying.’

Carol previously opened up about her son’s learning difficulties and how he was ‘deemed unteachable’ at school.

Carol and Cameron spoke candidly to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the ITV show to raise awareness of the need to make more specialist help at schools more accessible to all.

Cameron said: ‘I have high spectrum dyslexia, ADD, bit of ADHD, bad short-term memory… and I can’t really smell well!’

Carol said doctors had described how Cameron’s conditions were in a ‘Venn diagram’ which encompassed different branches of neurodivergent conditions.
