Daniil Medvedev’s Coach Reveals Strategy To Beat Novak Djokovic

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has had his best season on the Tour this year. The Russian finally fulfilled his potential as one of the next-gen stars and grabbed his first Grand Slam title at the US Open. His most notable matches this year have been against the World No. 1, Novak Djokovic.

Recently, Daniil Medvedev’s coach Gilles Cervara spoke about various aspects related to competing against Djokovic. He revealed the manner in which he relishes the challenge that this blockbuster fixture produces. Gilles also mentioned that they expected the Serb to change his strategy in Paris from the loss he suffered at the US Open.

The Frenchman spoke about facing Novak again and again; he stated, “It’s fun for me because I like to analyze many things to find solutions. Before the Paris final, we expected Novak could change something in his game and he did. Again, I read many times… I read that Agassi said Sampras made him better and Sampras said Agassi made him better.”

Battle of finals between Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic

Daniil has faced Novak in three important matches this year, all three of them finals. The Australian Open final in Melbourne was won by Djokovic. They later faced off in New York and that match went in favor of Medvedev, who lifted his first Slam. They most recently met in Paris, in the Paris Masters, which went in favor of the World No. 1 again.

The 40-year-old further added, “It’s exactly the same. When you play top players like this, after each match you try to find the solution to solve the problem. It can be the same for us if we have a chance to play Novak this week.”

Coming to tennis, Djokovic will be facing Zverev for a spot in the final later today. Medvedev has already booked his spot after defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2. If Nole can beat Zverev, the World No, 1 & 2 will meet for a fourth time this season, in yet another final.
