‘Trade Westbrook’ Starts Trending on Twitter After Lakers Embarrassing Loss to Celtics
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most renowned franchises in the NBA. A global fanbase of Lakers has remained loyal to the franchise over the years. The franchise has also enthralled fans every year with a star-studded roster. Current NBA stars on the Lakers roster include LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, among others.
The Lakers signed Russell Westbrook as an offseason signing to complement the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, both the franchise and Westbrook have not enjoyed a positive start to the new 2021-22 NBA season. Recently, Lakers fans took to social media to blame Westbrook as they lost to long-time rivals Boston Celtics on Friday night.

“Trade Westbrook” trended on Twitter as fans demanded Westbrook’s trade away from the franchise. Westbrook had a poor game for his team, scoring only 12 points. His teammates in Avery Bradley and Talen Horton-Tucker scored 6 points and 2 points, respectively. The Washington Wizards traded Westbrook to the Lakers on August 6, 2021. This marked the third time a franchise traded him and his fourth team in three years.
Alongside the Celtics, the Lakers have won 17 NBA championships. Their recent NBA title success came in 2020, with LeBron and Davis leading the franchise to the championship win. The franchise has had an astonishing twenty-six Hall of Famers don the iconic purple and gold jersey.
The Lakers fall to the Celtics in a humiliating loss
The Los Angeles Lakers faced defeat against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. Despite LeBron James‘ return from injury, the visiting side could not match a dominant Celtics side. Their record worsened to 8-9 after a final score of 130-108 showcased the team’s poor form.

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics, scoring 37 points followed by Marcus Smart with 22 points. Anthony Davis led Los Angeles, scoring 31 points while LeBron scored 23 points in 32 minutes.
Westbrook had put on a mediocre performance with only 12 points. The Lakers visit the Detroit Pistons next in a bid to improve their dismal form this season.
