WWE SmackDown results, grades: Big E attacks Roman Reigns before Survivor Series

The New Day made a statement (Picture: WWE)

WWE Champion Big E crashed the party on SmackDown and sent Roman Reigns running days before their Survivor Series clash.

The New Day star came to the aid of his teammate and friend King Xavier Woods as he laid out the Universal Champion after The Bloodline spent weeks tormenting Woods and Kofi Kingston.

The night kicked off with The Usos coming to the ring and claiming they sent a message to Big E on Raw this week, before bringing Reigns to the ring.

Paul Heyman had his say first (and was as in-form as ever), but the Head of the Table dismissed the King of the Ring throne, crown and scepter, insisting he took the crown last week simply because he could.

Xavier came down and insisted the material objects aren’t behind the king, following that up with a challenge for Reigns to face him in the ring later in the night.

He charged to the ring as the Bloodline started disrespecting the cloak, scepter and throne, but he got held back by Jimmy and Jey as Reigns stomped on the crown.

The main event segment got straight to the point as King Xavier called out the Head of the Table, who did come down while Heyman called for The Usos.

They didn’t appear, instead getting lobbed through the entranceway as Big E’s music blared over the PA and he made a statement.

He brawled with Roman, eventually hitting the Big Ending to stand tall days before Survivor Series

Sasha Banks lays out Shotzi, Sheamus gets onto the Survivor Series team and more

The opening match was a qualifier to determine the final member of Team SmackDown for the men’s squad at Survivor Series.

Sheamus faced tough competition from Cesaro, Ricochet and Jinder Mahal, but Ridge Holland proved to be the difference maker, providing a distraction which lefg the Swiss Superman open to a Brogue Kick.

Natalya and Shayna Baszler overcame Aliyah and Naomi as Sonya Deville continues to be extremely manipulative.

That story added another layer here, with referee Aja Smith making a very fast count to give Baszler and Natalya the win.

Jeff Hardy had a backstage interaction with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss which led to him facing the latter.

The Charismatic Enigma brought out Drew McIntyre to make sure Corbin couldn’t get involved, and the plan worked well as Jeff won with a roll-up after the Scottish star did his bit.

Shinsuke Nakamura didn’t have his Intercontinental Championship on the line, but he still won over Angel, with their respective partners Rick Boogs and Humberto at ringside.

Shotzi wanted to hurt Sasha Banks as the two rivals faced off, but the Legit Boss wasn’t going to take that pain lying out, fighting back and eventually winning.

She made her opponent tap out to the Bake Statement, but there was more to come as Deville came out.

The official clearly wanted the two stars to shake hands after the bell, but Sasha quickly hit the Backstabber and taunted Sonya, making sure she stayed on track,
