Esquiva Falcao Secures the Technical Decision Over Patrice Volny After a Bizarre Head Clash

Esquiva Falcao took on Patrice Volny in an unbeaten showdown. Both fighters went into the fight with their unbeaten records on the line. For Falcao, he gets closer to his well-deserved title shot. Falcao will finally get to challenge for the title after 7 years in the professional boxing circuit. For Volny, a win would mean the same, in this IBF title eliminator.

Falcao uncharacteristically started off strong in the very first round. Falcao knew he had to close the distance and not let Volny use his height and reach advantage. He kept charging forward, trying to get at Volny from the inside. After the first few rounds, neither of the two fighters were hurting their opponent or dominating the fight.

Both fighters just kept throwing at each other, exchanging combinations in the ring. Although, it was Falcao that kept the pressure and kept moving toward Volny. In the fifth round of the fight, Volny turned up the pace, ending the round with a flurry of shots as he cornered Falcao against the ropes, in the corner.

In the sixth round of the fight, Volny and Falcao were in close proximity, as Volny dipped to the right to try and hit Volny with a right hand. However, Volny’s head connected before his right hand with the power of a counter right. Falcao immediately started screaming in pain, as a gash opened up above his eyebrow. Falcao was in too much pain to continue fighting, so the judges went to the scorecard.
