Piers Morgan moved as Adele reunites with school teacher during ITV concert: ‘Loved this moment’

Piers Morgan was admittedly touched watching the moment Adele was reunited with her former school teacher on An Audience With Adele.

The Rolling In The Deep singer hosted the concert special at the London Palladium with ITV airing the show on Sunday.

At one point during the night, Adele, 33, took a question from celebrity audience member Dame Emma Thompson about who had inspired her when she was younger.

She then named her English teacher Ms McDonald from Chestnut Grove School in Balham, and explained: ‘She left in year eight but she got me really into literature, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics. But she also did street dance, I was too scared to go in, but like in the canteen they used to do these dances and stuff like that.

‘She was so bloody cool, so engaging, and she really made us care, and we knew that she cared about us and stuff like that. She used to have all these gold bracelets and gold rings. She was bloody cool and so relatable and likeable, that I really looked forward to my English lessons.’

Dame Emma then surprised Adele by inviting Ms McDonald on stage and the pair embraced. The singer was so emotional and tearful that she had to get her make-up reapplied and enlisted her pal Alan Carr to briefly entertain the audience. She also promised to take Ms McDonald’s number down so she could contact her.

Loved this moment. Adele’s right – you never forget a great teacher and they can change your life. #AnAudienceWithAdele pic.twitter.com/TV0LOxxQov

Piers shared his reaction to the sweet moment and it managed to melt his heart, as he tweeted: ‘Loved this moment. Adele’s right – you never forget a great teacher and they can change your life.’

However, his other commentary of the concert veered on the critical side as he had earlier told his followers: ‘If I was at this #AnAudienceWithAdele, I’d ask her two questions: 1) Does the unctuous sycophancy from your celebrity fans make you want to vomit? 2) How come you’re singing more perfectly ‘live’ than on your records?’

‘* This probably explains why I wasn’t invited,’ he added jokingly.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter later said: ‘Minor irritations aside, there’s no doubt that @Adele is the best singer in the world right now & right up there with Barbra & Whitney as possessor of the best set of pipes in pop history. Just a shame she’s a Spurs fan.’

A-list guests among the star-studded audience included Dua Lipa, David Tennant, Idris Elba, Samuel L Jackson, and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson.

Adele performed tracks including Hometown Glory, Send My Love (To Your New Lover) and songs from her new album 30, such as Easy On Me and Hold On.

The singer tweeted during the show: ‘Home Sweet Home. I’ve always dreamt of doing An Audience With… There was so much love in the room for eachother [sic], it felt like such a gig! Everyone was raucous and bang up for it! And my teacher Ms McDonald was there, it was just heaven.’

An Audience With Adele is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
