Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly was forced to apologise when a technical glitch caused a disruption during Dan Walker and Nadiya Bychkova’s dance.

On tonight’s show, the celebrities and their professional dance partners performed an array of lively and dramatic routines for Musicals Week, with inspirations ranging from Frozen to Les Misérables.

BBC Breakfast presenter Dan and pro Nadiya showcased their best swivels with their Charleston set to Good Morning from Singin’ In The Rain, earning praise from the judges, including Craig Revel Horwood’s temporary replacement Cynthia Erivo.

However, at one point in the dance, the couple were playfully pointing at the judges when the screen suddenly and unexpectedly cut to black.

When their performance came to an end, Tess commended them on their joyful moves, before addressing the audience watching on their TVs at home.

‘I’d just like to apologise for a slight technical hitch we had during that,’ she said, as she then turned to the judges to deliver their critiques.

Several Strictly fans expressed their confusion over the technical mishap, with one person tweeting: ‘Who else thought the glitch was just them lol.’

‘Did anyone else’s screen just go black for a second?!’ another person said, while someone else wrote: ‘My screen went black for a second, just me?’

Fortunately, the interruption only lasted a few seconds before Dan and Nadiya were back, roly-polying off a sofa and displaying impressive lifts for the final dance of the evening.

The couple ended up earning 31 out of a possible score of 40, matching Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden at the bottom of the leaderboard.

After being in the dance-off last week, Tilly Ramsay and her partner Nikita Kuzmin soared to the top of the leaderboard with a perfect score of 40, which they received after their Couple’s Choice routine to Revolting Children from Matilda.

AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington were a close second with their score of 38, which they earned for their romantic Waltz to Edelweiss from The Sound of Music.

Following weeks of speculation about the nature of their relationship, the pair played into the rumours during their VT, with AJ telling Kai that she wasn’t going to kiss them while they practised twirling outside.

Meanwhile, Cynthia proved a hit on the judging panel, with viewers commending her for using sign language to communicate with Rose Ayling-Ellis after the EastEnders actor’s dance with Giovanni Pernice.

The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
