Bubba Wallace Takes a Dig at Corey LaJoie as He Still Remembers Their Phoenix Incident

Bubba Wallace had a very mixed bag of a season in 2021. Yes, he won the race in Talladega and established a few NASCAR milestones in doing so. But most of the season, he wasn’t where he wanted to be. While Wallace would’ve at least wanted to finish the season on a high, he couldn’t do so courtesy of Corey LaJoie.

Wallace was taken out by Lajoie at the Phoenix Raceway in the last race of the season. And the 23XI driver still hasn’t forgotten or forgiven Lajoie for wrecking him out of the race.

In a Tweet posted by NASCAR on Reddit, the question was, “Which current Cup driver would win in a foot race?”

Bubba Wallace replied that other drivers hold no chance against him in that respect. To this, Corey LaJoie replied, “I’d trip you 10 yards in.”

“Just like Phoenix…I know,” Wallace replied back.

It seems LaJoie’s reply was in fun banter and humour. But Wallace couldn’t help but remind him of the incident from Phoenix a few weeks ago. Not that Wallace not finishing the race made any significant difference to his season, but like everyone, he would’ve wanted a happy ending.

The incident between Bubba Wallace and Corey Lajoie

During Lap 7 of Stage 1, Corey LaJoie got tangled with Bubba Wallace as he was going on the outside. This resulted in Wallace’s car spinning and hitting the wall with its rear end, effectively ending his race.

The antagonist of this incident, LaJoie found himself a couple of places down as he escaped relatively unharmed for the time being. Because later in the race, call it a coincidence or Wallace’s sarcastic applause being heard by some divine forces, Corey LaJoie spun and greeted the same wall he put Wallace into.

With the 2021 season over, the ‘Next Gen‘ era upon us, drivers and teams are preparing for the next season. Bubba Wallace would also be encouraged to forgo the memories from 2021 as his team is set to announce a new charter.

Wallace would want more of his result from Talladega and less like his result from Phoenix in 2022. Both of which he can do unless a fellow driver wrecks him.
