Errol Spence Jr. Announces 2022 Return: 5 Opponents He Can Fight Next

Errol Spence Jr. is back in training. After suffering a retinal detachment some months back, the doctors have finally cleared him to fight again. As the unified Welterweight champion gets back into training, let’s take a look at his next potential opponents. Errol Spence Jr. looked to defend his titles against Manny Pacquiao earlier this year. However, an injury ruled him out of the fight.

Spence was in attendance at the Crawford vs Porter fight, and the unified champ left as soon as Porter hit the canvas. It looked like Spence was scouting out his next opponents ringside, as the winner of that fight could stake their claim for a unification bout. Spence revealed to ES News that he is back in training and looks to return to the ring in February or March next year.

“Everybody has got to wait. I’m coming back with a big one. When I’ll be back, it’s going to be a big one,” said Spence. “Yeah, it’s 147 still. Hopefully, I’ll be fighting again in February or March. We’ll see.” Now that Spence confirmed his return to the ring, let’s take a look at his next potential opponents.

5 opponents Errol Spence Jr. can fight next

1. Terence Crawford: After putting on another dominant performance against one of the toughest fighters in the division, Crawford puts himself into the top spot to secure a unification bout.

2. Yordenis Ugas: Ugas replaced Spence in his fight against Pacquiao and came out on top with his WBA welterweight title still around his waist. Spence can look to add another belt to his name if he wants to take on the Cuban.

3. Vergil Ortiz Jr.: Another good challenge for Spence would be the hard-hitting Vergil Ortiz Jr. The Mexican will be a tough test for Spence, and a match up with him puts the WBO welterweight title on the line.

4. Kudratillo Abdukakhorov: Abdukakhorov is a former champion, and the Uzbek would prove to be a tough test for Spence Jr. For Kudratillo Abdukakhorov it would be the perfect match up as he looks to become champion again. For Spence, on the other hand, Abdukakhorov does not have any belts to offer him, so Spence would likely not take that fight.

5. Jaron Ennis:

Another top prospect in the Welterweight division, Ennis is an unbeaten boxer working his way up the rankings. His first-round knockout win over Thomas Dulorme puts him in a strong position to challenge for the title.
