I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2021 has seen a plunge in ratings compared to last year, with the new series shedding three million viewers.

ITV’s hit survival programme finally made its debut with an exhilarating launch episode, however, Sunday night’s figures presented a striking contrast from the previous.

The debut episode of series 21, which was filmed in Wales instead of Australia due to the Covid pandemic, gave the channel an audience share of 51.9%, with a peak audience of 12million.

Despite the dramatic fall in numbers, it was ITV’s most-watched programme of the weekend peaking at nine million, along with the concert exclusive, An Audience With Adele.

The first installment of the long-awaited show saw celebrities, Richard Madeley, Danny Miller, David Ginola, Naughty Boy, and Dame Arlene Phillips aka the red team, battle it out in head-to-head challenges, however, their efforts were no match for the yellow team, which resulted in them staying in the dreaded Clink.

The Clink is a new area for this year’s I’m A Celebrity, and the unfortunate group will be forced to sleep on the floor without the comfort of a mattress as well as shower in the dark.

Frankie Bridge, Matty Lee, Kadeena Cox, Louise Minchin, and Snoochie Shy were victorious and had the luxury of staying in the main camp.

From Danny’s queasy stomach to Naughty Boy getting his spices confiscated by show bosses, it’s fair to say last night’s opener had a lot going on.

Monday’s episode will see Danny and Snoochie take part in the first eating bushtucker trial, which is appropriately titled Dreaded Dinner, of the series.

Emmerdale actor Danny was voted by viewers last night as the yellow team’s representative and ITV later confirmed radio DJ Snoochie will be stepping in for the reds.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
