Kobe Bryant-LeBron James Card Lost in a Shoebox Sells for Whopping $312,000

From legendary art pieces to present-day NFTs, collectors’ items are known for increasing in value, based on their exclusivity. In the NBA, collectors’ items range from first-worn jerseys to sneakers and collectors’ cards.

One such iconic collectors’ item- a 2008 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor Kobe Bryant and LeBron James card was recently found in a shoebox. What makes this card so special?

It is one of only 50 copies to be printed and it sold for a whopping amount in an auction recently. Why? Since it shows Kobe Bryant getting guarded by none other than LeBron James. For NBA fans, this collector’s item is extremely valuable since it is exclusive and shows two of the greatest players of all time to play basketball. Therefore, it was auctioned off for $312,000.

According to Rich Mueller of the Sports Collectors’ Daily, the card had been sitting in a shoebox for years. But one of the 50 copies of the 2008 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor Kobe Bryant sold for a whopping sum over this weekend.

A collector presented the card to last summer’s National Sports Collectors Convention after opening packs and putting them away. He took it to the PWCC stand at the Chicago event, where PSA authenticated and graded it.
