Piers Morgan has made his feelings on the Brit Awards scrapping gendered nominations categories after describing the move as ‘woke garbage’.
It was announced that the Brits 2022 ceremony will not use male and female categories, instead going gender-neutral to support inclusivity.
However, the news was met with a strong reaction from former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers, who wasn’t convinced by it.
He tweeted with a link to an article about the change: ‘What a load of woke garbage. Won’t be long before it’s illegal to call yourself a man or woman.’
Not all of Piers’ followers agreed with his sentiment as one replied: ‘I don’t mind this Piers it’s music that matters not sex.’
Another agreed: ‘There is no really reason for male and female categories tho. As Chris Rock famously said at the Oscars … “it’s not track and field”.’
One Twitter user supported the move but hoped merging men and women in the same categories would still provide equal opportunity for both genders to win, or even receive a nomination.

‘Fine by me but it BETTER be a 50:50 sex (NOT gender) ratio for winners to ensure female musicians are not discriminated against, as they still are in the male-dominated music industry at large,’ they said.
Another agreed and feared the change could create more inclusivity issues, stating: ‘The news from the BRIT awards is concerning.

‘While it might be seen as progress by some, joint categories, instead of male/female ones, will lead to tokenism and resentment; if a man wins there will be claims of sexism, if a woman wins it will lead to accusations of tokenism.’
However, supporting the move, one Twitter user commented: ‘Delighted to hear that the Brit Awards have changed their Categories to make it more inclusive and diverse farewell then to the individual Male and Female Solo Categories and introducing Artist Of The Year along with Best Hip-Hop,Rock,Indie,Dance etc.’

Brits organisers announced they were to introduce new awards for artist of the year and international artist of the year, celebrating artists solely for their music and work, rather than how they choose to identify or as others may see them, as part of the Brits’ commitment to evolving the show to be as inclusive and as relevant as possible.
In another notable change, comedian Mo Gilligan will host the awards replacing Jack Whitehall and becoming the first Black British star to do so.
The Brit Awards 2022 will take place at London’s O2 Arena on February 8, 2022.
