The Great British Bake Off final was full of flour, feelings and finalists as Chigs Parmar, Giuseppe Dell’Anno and Crystelle Pereira battled it out to see who would be crowned the winner of the 2021 series.

However, viewers were distracted from the carrot cake by a rather odd segment from presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding.

In a clearly choreographed moment, the pair pretended to be caught leaning in for a kiss with one another by the camera, with Noel quickly calling: ‘Bakers! You half an hour left, half an hour!’

The duo then pretended to pick up where they left off, as Noel bent down towards Matt’s lips.

‘What on earth was that with the two wired [sic] presenters going in for a kiss?’, tweeted one viewer while another disagreed.

‘matt and noel almost kissing is the highlight of this #bakeoff final [sic],’ they joked.

There were also plenty of quips below the show’s official account sharing the exchange, which it branded ‘unexpected’.

‘That is not unexpected’, pointed out one social media user, likely referring to Matt and Noel’s rather off-the-wall presenting style.

‘Release the uncut version…’ commented another.

One viewer had fun with a nod to the so-called Strictly Come Dancing curse, in which contestants and professional dancers have, in the past, embarked on relationships with one another.

‘Forget about the strictly curse. It’s time for the bake off curse [sic]’, they tweeted, with a laugh-crying emoji.

Fans were also touched when Giuseppe received a video message from his elderly father in Italy and couldn’t help but break down in tears.

‘He’s not very well, he’s getting towards his elderly stage,’ Giuseppe said to the camera. He then revealed that his dad used to be a keen baker himself back in the day and quipped: ‘They would make very good showstoppers for the bakers.’
