Bake Off: Will there be another series in 2022?

Is series 13 of Bake Off on the cards? (Picture: Mark Bourdillon/Love Productions)

Say it ain’t so! The Great British Bake Off 2021 finale is happening imminently.

It’ll surely be a tense and thrilling conclusion to this year’s series – but it also means that our favourite, high-stakes baking show will be off our screens for another full year.

Just think of all the botched bakes, stressful pie disasters (OK, there was just one of those) and wayward cakes we’ve seen this series – alongside some absolutely delectable desserts.

We’ll miss it all. And especially 2021’s two breakout baking stars: finalist Giuseppe and secretly-relieved semi-finalist Jurgen.

So, is there set to be more baking TV goodness in 2022? And how long will we have to wait?

Here’s what we know.

Will there be a 2022 series of Great British Bake Off?

Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.

Yes, there will be another series of The Great British Bake Off!

A new group of amateur bakers will gather under the Bake Off tent for endless dessert-based challenges in 2022.

It’ll be the 13th series, and best of all: you can apply to be part of it if you like.

Love Productions, which makes the show for Channel 4, is accepting applications until December 5, 2021.

If selected, you’d need to make yourself available for filming from April to August 2022.

That’s around 16 weeks (or four months) of potential promos, shoots and challenges in the tent. It is usually shot over the weekend, though, so contestants can keep their day jobs.

Keen? Head here to apply, or email applyforbakeoff@loveproductions.co.uk to throw your apron in the ring.

Filming usually takes place in Essex, and there’s a lot that goes into being on the show – including prepping lists of ingredients and, of course, baking them under immense time pressure.

It’s worth knowing there’s no pay, and what the winning Star Baker’s ultimate prize is, before going ahead.

If you’d rather just watch, though, we’d guestimate it’ll be back sometime in late September, as that’s when the 2021 series started.

And you can relax, as Love Productions has a three-year deal with Channel 4, meaning the show will be on every year until (at least) 2024.

Will Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas return to the series in 2022?

At the time of writing, there’s nothing to suggest that Noel and Matt won’t be back.

The hilariously dry hosting duo have been working together since 2020, when Matt Lucas replaced Sandi Toksvig as Noel Fielding’s TV other half. Noel joined the show in 2017.

As for baking judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, it’s expected that they’ll both be back, too.

Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
