Jordan Spieth Once Fell Victim to a Hilarious Golf Prank

When you search up golf pranks on the internet, a few of them might be some really elaborate hole-in-one pranks. They often include someone lying about a hole-in-one, later revealing that no, the golfer has not pulled off a seemingly impossible shot. Unfortunately, Jordan Spieth was at the receiving of one such prank last year.

The COVID-19 pandemic had players and events on break, most of them probably out playing on a private course. As a result of this COVID-19 break, Spieth and his wife Annie ended up spending some time in Colorado. Of course, the golfer had to play golf, this time at the private Snowmass Club outside Aspen.

That’s where the 28-year-old met Shane Smith, who ended up pulling the hole-in-one prank on the three-time major champion.

How did a local prank PGA Tour star, Jordan Spieth?

While at the private club, Shane Smith; a property manager living near the 12th green chose to head out and watch Spieth play. Now, the 12th hole has an elevated green, which means the player does not have eyes on where his ball ends up. Spieth’s landed around 20 feet from the hole.

However, Smith had other plans. He ended up marking Spieth’s ball, picked it up, and ended up placing it in the 12th hole. He explained that he wanted to make Spieth’s day, and do something funny. Well, the prank surely started off funny, with Spieth wondering where his ball was.

Smith, feigning obliviousness, let Spieth know that it was in the hole. “You’re kidding,” Spieth responded.

The next moment, Spieth was celebrating, explaining how he had never aced a par-four hole before this. Sometime later, Annie joined them.

Ultimately, Smith had to cut the prank short. “I told him, ‘Hey, man, I was trying to be funny, and you might not be able to hear me because I have my foot so far down my throat. But your ball finished over there. I actually put it in the hole.’”

The PGA Tour star first believed Smith to be joking, later telling him that he took him ‘from the mountaintop way down to the valley’. Smith admitted to knowing who he was, about which Spieth was really nice about. “Just an awesome story that I’ll never forget,” Spieth explained.

What was the last event Spieth played?

The CJ Cup was the last event Spieth participated in, finishing T18. While he is yet to come back on the course this season, the 28-year-old and his lovely wife recently welcomed their first son, Sammy, into the world.

When do you think Spieth will be returning to the course?
