“There Needs to Be a Trilogy”- Colby Covington Demands a Rematch Against Kamaru Usman

Colby Covington is without a doubt one of the grittiest fighters that the promotion has ever seen. The fighter never backs down, no matter what. After looking at what he’s done in the past two years, there’s no denying that Covington is one of the best fighters on the roster right now. 

On November 6, Covington put on a signature performance against Kamaru Usman at UFC 268. Even though Usman walked away with a unanimous decision win, the fight was extremely close and entertaining. We saw a much more patient approach from Covington this time, unlike their first bout at UFC 245. 

Recently in an interview with Submission Radio, ‘Chaos’ reflected on his match against Kamaru Usman at UFC 268. He said, “I clearly won that fight three to two. The third, fourth and fifth-round were my round. And even if you were looking on a different side of the scope, I think you could see me winning the first round too.”

“There needs to be a trilogy if he stays around. After fighting me two times, I think he realizes how serious I am and how bad I want that belt. So I don’t know if he’s willing to die in that octagon like I am… You know I’m gonna get my shot back at him if he doesn’t retire first. He might retire and just go on, you know, right off in the sunset. But if not, I’m looking for that Marty trilogy,” he added.

Did Colby Covington takedown Kamaru Usman?

Kamaru Usman is said to have never been taken down in his whole UFC career. There is a lot of speculation right now over whether or not Covington successfully took Usman down at UFC 268. The irony is that the UFC did not award a successful takedown to Colby Covington, but fans believe otherwise.

Covington had Kamaru Usman on his knees in the third round of the bout when he pounced at him from behind. Many would count the move as a takedown, as ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ had both his knees on the ground. Not only do the fans and Colby Covington consider it a takedown, but Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier does as well. However, as the UFC doesn’t, nothing else matters.
