WOAH! Dan Hooker Successfully Changes His Weight Class After Islam Makhachev Loss

Dan Hooker’s recent MMA fights have been spectacular. While he has lately lost a few fights, all bouts were eye-catchers. In his last fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 267, he entered as the underdog. However, fans were surprised to see how quickly the fight ended. Makhachev succeeded in submitting Dan Hooker in the first round itself.

Hooker now seems to be interested in moving a division down. In a recent video, ‘The Hangman’ was seen weighing around 145 pounds. He shared the video on Twitter and wrote, “45 look alive.”

It seems that Hooker is interested in competing in the featherweight division. In a recent interview with The Mac Life, Hooker revealed that he had something exciting that he was experimenting with and it involved the UFC and the fight dietician. The fighter did not reveal the exact details of what was going on. But one could infer that he was possibly signaling towards dropping down a division.

With his video of cutting weight to 145 pounds, fans are now sure that they will get to see him fight in the featherweight division soon.

Hooker is not unfamiliar with the featherweight division. From 2014 to 2016, he used to compete in the featherweight division and had a 3-3 record. However, he did comparatively well in the lightweight division and managed to achieve a good record. Unfortunately, he has experienced recent losses which probably contributed to his decision.

Will Dan Hooker do better in the featherweight division?

Hooker has competed in the lightweight division for a while. He has had some difficulties in both the weight divisions. However, since he is moving to featherweight from the lightweight division, it might be an advantage for him.

One cannot ignore that cutting weight can be a brutal process. Many fighters seem weak after cutting weight. Hence, having to hit 145 lbs could also prove a little difficult. But Hooker seems to relish the idea of fighting in the featherweight division again. Only time can tell whether it’s a good idea.
