Conor McGregor Doesn’t Need Any Warm-up Fights Says Coach

Conor McGregor is the biggest name in the world of mixed martial arts. His fights generate the most buzz. Fans are excited to see him fight, and the numbers show that. He is also a former two-division UFC champion, and if a fighter gets in the octagon with him and wins, it instantly bumps up their stock.

The Irishman is currently on the injured list and won’t be able to compete till mid-2022. He suffered a broken leg in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. However, this hasn’t stopped the fighters from calling him out, and him from calling fighters out. In a recent interview, his coach, John Kavanagh, gave an update on who he would like to see McGregor face on his return.

He said, “I don’t really know. I just don’t really involve myself in that anymore. He’s got a hundred opponents lined up, it would appear. But let’s just get back training. Let’s test the leg and test everything and when the time comes, I’m sure he won’t be short of choice.”

When asked about Conor asking for a title shot as soon as he comes back, and if he should have a fight before that, Kavanagh said, “He’s not so much about warm-up fights. He seems pretty warm to me as it is. What will come, will come.”

Conor McGregor is looking for a fight

Being on the sidelines is not something that is going to keep McGregor from calling people out. ‘The Notorious‘ has not entered the octagon since July, where he suffered a gruesome injury to his leg. He is back training now and is targeting a 2022 return. However, that has not kept him from targeting fighters online.

Most recently, he declared that he will fight for the lightweight title when he comes back, and the trilogy with Dustin Poirier is unfinished.

In a now-deleted tweet, he wrote, “Hi lads, here goes.. clicks and the like. Your boss and what not. The Mac. Santy Claus. I’m facing whoever the f**k has that LW title next. Deal with it. Take off your goggles and mark the trilogy (against Dustin Poirier) “unfinished”. Deal with that too. The rest mentioned, after this. Deal. With. It.”

The former two-division champ also seemed to be beefing with Max Holloway. After a Twitter back-and-forth, McGregor posted a video during Holloway’s introduction before his fight against Yair Rodriguez. In the video, he was pacing left and right while staring ‘Blessed’ down.

Tony Ferguson and Michael Chandler also called McGregor out. Hence, it seems like he will be busy fending off a lot of competition upon his return to action.
