Is Selling Sunset real or scripted? Cast of Netflix show speaks out

Selling Sunset – the sun-kissed reality show about attractive people selling attractive houses – has been a breakout hit for Netflix, and it’s not hard to see why.
The fourth season of the show is dropping on Netflix UK on November 24, and it will pick up where season three left off – including Chrishell Stause fleeing from the wedding of frenemy/fellow realtor Christine Quinn.
Season four promises some new drama, too – with new cast members Vanessa Villela and Emma Hernan arriving to the Oppenheim Group to shake things up.

Is Selling Sunset scripted?
The show is the brainchild of Adam DiVello, who may be known to some for creating another reality juggernaut, MTV’s The Hills.
The Hills famously broke the fourth wall in its finale – and even included an alternate ending – insinuating that a lot of the show had in fact been scripted.
So is this the same with Selling Sunset?
Sharing his truth with Metro.co.uk, Jason Oppenheim said: ‘There’s nothing that’s scripted, we’re never told to say anything.
‘At most, I would say that in some situations, if some things need to be addressed or we’re meeting a client or something, we’ll be asked to wait to make sure if we get everything on camera, but that’s certainly not scripted.’
‘Let’s say I have to deal with something or speak with Davina [Potratz] about something or Mary [Fitzgerald] has to go get her wedding dress, we might have to put that off for a day or two to make sure we get it on camera, but we’re never told to say or do anything unfortunately.’
Jason adds that all the drama is actually a game of perspective. The show, he says, is ‘months and months of our lives compacted into eight hours.
‘You do look back on it and you’re like, damn, that is a lot of drama. But unfortunately, it’s all real.’
Fellow cast member, newbie Amanza Smith who joined in the second season, added: ‘Every time someone asks me that, I laugh because I think to myself, if we were instructed and given a script on all of this, we would all have Oscars.’
While other stars on the show have acting credits, with Chrishell being a regular soap actress on shows including Days of our Lives, some have hinted through social media interactions that perhaps some of the drama is a little edited for TV.
Christine Quinn, one of the main stars and occasional villain of the show, regularly tweets with fans.
In one recently, she wrote ‘love some good TV drama’ after someone called her out for her behaviour.
Selling Sunset season 4 is available to stream on Netflix from November 24.
