I’m A Celebrity 2021: Naughty Boy’s family ban mum with dementia from watching ‘distressing’ drama

Naughty Boy’s family have banned his mother with dementia from watching him on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! because she gets ‘overwhelmed’.

Just days into the current series of I’m A Celebrity, Naughty Boy threatened to quit when stars from the main camp – Louise Minchin, Snoochie Shy, Frankie Bridge, Matty Lee, and Kadeena Cox – picked him for the Bushtucker trial when he’s already done a task earlier that day.

Alongside Danny Miller, David Ginola, Dame Arlene Phillips, and Richard Madeley, Naughty Boy has been confined to grim The Clink – an even bleaker part of Gwrych castle to the main camp.

Subsequently, it became too much and he told his camp mates ‘my time is done’.

It was a hard watch for his family, and now his niece Aisha revealed his mother would get ‘too distressed’ if she saw her son having a difficult time.

She told The Sun: ‘During the day, she is always like, “Where is he?”, “Is her coming home?” and we have to keep reminding her that no, he is on the show and she will see him on TV.

‘We didn’t let her watch last night’s episode because we thought she would be really overwhelmed seeing him upset.

‘Watching it she will get confused, especially if she saw him doing the trial, she would have been very, very distressed.

‘Most nights, she will cheer, “That is my son,” and she will talk to the TV, bless her.’

Yesterday, the musician’s family hit back at I’m A Celebrity trolls, who slammed the producer for taking the show ‘too personally’.

One viewer wrote: ‘I’ve got to be honest, I’m not comfortable with the reaction to Naughty Boy on here.

‘To me, it appears like he has some deep rooted issues with himself and may not be mentally prepared to deal with the show and the failure #ImACeleb.’

In another post, the same audience member added: ‘I’ve got to be honest, I’m not comfortable with the reaction to Naughty Boy on here.

‘To me, it appears like he has some deep rooted issues with himself and may not be mentally prepared to deal with the show and the failure #ImACeleb.’

Naughty Boy’s social media account, which is currently being run by his family, then commented below the post: ‘This! If only everyone knew what he’s battling on the outside world.’

Before heading to the castle, Naughty Boy confirmed he was meant to join the 2020 line-up, but dropped out and was replaced by eventual runner-up Jordan North.

He explained he’s been living with his mother as her carer.

‘She was very anxious about me leaving last year but this year it’s the flip reverse – she’s excited,’ he said.

‘She said so many nice things and she was actually saying for me not to worry about her and just go off to the castle and come back home king of the castle.

‘And I said to her, “Let’s take it one step at a time, Mum!”

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
