Major Cog of Battlefield 2042 Leaves DICE After Catastrophic Launch

DICE’s Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19 and things have been going downhill for the title since then. Within three days of its launch, Battlefield 2042 joined the Hall of Shame list on Steam, becoming the 9th worst rated game on the platform. Currently, it holds the 12th position as fans continue to leave brigades of disappointing reviews.

And to add salt to the wound, DICE Head of Design, Fawzi Mesmar, is now leaving the game development company. As per VGC’s recent reports, Mesmar will be heading elsewhere to take on a role “couldn’t refuse”.

Battlefield 2042: The huge decision

EA DICE has produced some distinguished titles under the leadership of Fawzi Mesmar. He has been leading the ship as the Head of Design at the company since 2019 and is responsible for titles such as Battlefield V, Star Wars Battlefront II, and the infamous Battlefield 2042.

Earlier today Mesmar announced his departure from DICE to his colleagues in an email wherein he made a few astonishing revelations. In the company-wide email, he pens how the General Manager, Oskar Gabrielson, and Mesmar himself have been working on his succession plans for some time”.

Mesmar’s future and Battlefield’s state

While the devs try to get Battlefield 2042 to a likable state with the major updates releasing soon, it looks like the soon-to-be-former Head of Design, Fawzi Mesmar, is all set to officiate in an undisclosed company. Mesmar, in the email explaining his decision, said, “I have been made an offer I couldn’t refuse at another company that has been kind enough to wait for me until we have shipped [Battlefield 2042]”.

As for Battlefield 2042, DICE recently announced what changes players can expect in the next patch. But whether these much-needed tweaks can save the drowning ship is still a question that ponders in many minds.
