Paddy McGuinness didn’t want wife Christine to join Real Housewives of Cheshire as it’s ‘about showing off wealth’

Christine McGuinness has said her husband Paddy wasn’t keen on the idea of her joining Real Housewives of Cheshire.
The mum-of-three was asked several times to be on the show, which began in 2015, and said no.
However, she later decided that she wanted to do something for herself and the show would be a good fit and became part of the cast in 2018.
She writes in her book A Beautiful Nightmare (via The Mirror): ‘Although I still couldn’t commit to becoming a full-time cast member, the producers agreed I could join as a guest Housewife and they would work around my schedule.
‘But let’s just say it didn’t go down well at home. Patrick didn’t want me to have a public profile at all. He especially didn’t want me to join this show. He thought it was all about the glitz and glamour, and showing off your wealth, which is so far-removed from my normal life.
‘And I agree it wasn’t quite the right fit; I don’t live a glamorous life and I’m not shopping for Chanel bags and going to swanky parties every day, which is the reputation of Housewives.’

However, Christine added that it was important for her to find something for herself and something she could fit in around her children, Penelope, Felicity, and Leo, who she shares with Paddy.
The 33-year-old went on to say that, while she enjoyed the show, it’s not her ‘real life’.
Christine left Real Housewives in 2020, with the star explaining she felt it didn’t fit in with her life anymore.
The star, who married Paddy in 2011, has been incredibly open with her fans, including about their family life with their three children, who are autistic.

Christine was also diagnosed with autism over the summer, recently explaining on Loose Women of Paddy: ‘He’s been really good. He said that he’s known for a while and he’s thought for quite a long time… basically, since the children got diagnosed.
‘When we were sat talking about all the food aversions, the way they were, everything about them, he kept thinking to himself, “They’re actually just really like Christine”. But he never said to me!’
