Fans of The Beatles are celebrating today with the release of Peter Jackson’s new documentary The Beatles: Get Back.

The three-part documseries is centered, not just on the lives and careers of John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, but focusing on the creation of their final album, Let It Be.

After being announced almost three years ago, and the release date pushed back multiple times, the first part of Get Back was released on Thursday, and critics’ reviews are already lauding it as a success.

With 2021 marking 51 years after the release of Let It Be, and Beatlemania almost as strong as ever, questions still remain about The Beatles’ final months together and the creation process behind album that would turn out to be their last.

The Beatles: Get Back music documentary focuses extensively on the three weeks the band had to write and record a new album, and prepare for their first live performance in three years.

This album would become the Grammy-winning Let It Be, the final record the group ever created together, and which was called, at the time, Get Back.

The final performance would be, of course, their iconic rooftop show in London’s Savile Row.

The documentary is made entirely from never-before-seen footage which has been expertly restored and colourised, after filmmaker Peter Jackson gained access to 150 hours of audio and 60 hours of video.

Filmed over just 21 days in 1969, the documentary promises to show some of The Beatles’ most intimate moments as a band and as friends, and is a must-watch for any Beatles fan.

When will The Beatles: Get Back be released?

The Beatles: Get Back is being released over the three days of the Thanksgiving weekend on Disney Plus.

A three-part docuseries, the first part will land on the streaming site on Thursday, November 25, followed by part two on Friday November 26, and the final third part on Saturday, November 27.

Each episode is around two hours long, with the docuseries coming out at around seven hours altogether.

Viewers in the UK will be able to watch The Beatles: Get Back on Disney Plus, free of charge as long as they hold a subscription to the service.

The Beatles: Get Back filmmaker Peter Jackson has had a long and distinguished career, boasting multiple Grammy awards for his work.

Perhaps most famously, Jackson was behind the Lord of the Rings franchise, including The Hobbit movies.

He also created the film They Shall Not Grow Old, which showed life on the front lines of World War I, made entirely from restored footage of soldiers in the trenches.

The state-of-the-art technology used to create They Shall Not Grow Old is the same used in The Beatles: Get Back.
