These secret iPhone codes unlock EVERY emoji – how to use them today

FINDING the right emoji isn’t always easy, particularly if you find yourself swiping through options on your iPhone keyboard.

Fortunately, most keyboard apps come with a search function to help you hunt down the symbol you’re after within seconds.

That’s all well and good if you’re searching for something simple, such as the smiley emoji (search “smile”) or the American flag (search “USA”).

Snaring the more obscure emojis is a little trickier, however, as you might not know which keywords to search for.

What do you type to find the weird David Bowie lookalike emoji, for instance, or the hand gesture made famous in the 1960s television series “Star Trek”?

Fortunately, some clever clogs on the internet has tracked down the keywords for every emoji and cobbled them together in an enormous list.

Typing the phrases into your iPhone keyboard’s emoji search bar will bring up the symbol you’re after in rapid time.

It means you can avoid spending precious seconds scrolling through your whole emoji library in search of the perfect emblem to punctuate your texts.

How to search for emoji on iPhone

How you search for emoji depends on the keyboard app you’re using.

The vast majority of iPhone owners use Apple keyboard, which comes pre-installed on all iOS devices.

To search for an emoji on Apple keyboard, first, open up any app where you can write – such as WhatsApp, iMessage or Notes.

Once your keyboard is open and ready to chat, tap the grinning emoji icon in the bottom left to bring up your emoji catalogue.

You can type text into the “Search Emoji” box at the top of your keyboard to narrow down your options based on certain keywords.

You can also search for emoji in third-party keyboard apps that you’ve downloaded from the App Store.

On Google’s Gboard and Microsoft’s Swiftkey, for instance, you can do that by simply following the same steps as above.

If the emoji button isn’t showing in either app, head into your app’s settings and toggle it on.
