Golf vs Disc Golf: Which Sport is Richer and More Popular Around the World?

Golf is by far one of the most popular sports in the world. However, a similar sport with fast pace growth is disc golf. Notably, this sport is also called folf or frolf. In this sport, players throw a flying disc at a target.

Both golf and disc golf are quite famous and well-known around the world. They usually have 9 or 18 holes and have almost similar obstructions. However, when it comes to the length of the course, usually golf courses are vast. Let us compare these two games and see which is wealthier and famous currently in the world.

Golf or disc golf? Which is more richer and popular?

Golf is an ancient sport and hence obviously has more popularity around the world. It is one of the most played games in the world with millions of recreational golfers. However, frolf is quite a new concept, and it is still in its growth phase. Apart from the United States, this sport is not practiced much elsewhere.

However, this new sport is picking up the pace with popularity, especially in the older generation. Moreover, this requires even less strain on the muscles than golf and allows older players to enjoy the game and socialize. Hence, it is said to be one of the fastest-growing games in the world right now. According to a report, around 50 million rounds of disc golf were played worldwide last year.

Meanwhile, for the monetary support or prize purse in professional events, this game is still way behind. The PDGA’s major tournament’s average total prize money is $64929. However, when it comes to PGA Tour, the average purse for each event is $9.1 million, which was just increased a few days ago.

Hence, as of now, golf is definitely more popular and richer. But given the trajectory and ease of playing disc golf, we can expect this to gain more prominence around the world soon.
