Strictly 2021: AJ Odudu takes Kai Widdrington home to meet family in emotional moment

Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Odudu shared a sweet moment with partner Kai Widdrington as she took him to meet her family.

As they prepared for their amazing couples’ choice routine to Janelle Monae’s Make Me Feel, the pair headed to AJ’s beloved hometown of Blackburn.

It was an emotional visit as AJ opened up on her childhood.

‘We didn’t grow up with a lot financially but we were a family always and I’m really grateful for that,’ she said

‘I remember saying, “I want to be inside the TV.” It was a really big dream but my mum always somehow made it seem like it could happen.’

‘I wouldn’t have stuck at it if it wasn’t for my family,’ the 33-year-old continued.

Sitting down with the Odudus, the Radio 1 DJ was told by her brother: ‘I’m so, so proud other people now get to see what I get to see,’ with her family telling her she’s a ‘star’.

AJ and Kai, who have been storming through the competition and landing impressive scores almost every week, have also been at the centre of romance rumours.

Addressing the speculation, AJ previously said: ‘I find it exciting that everyone’s interested in us enough to take note of all of these things.

‘The way I see it is, everyone can see how well we’re getting on and how hard we’re working in order to try our best each and every week to put in a solid performance.’

When asked whether the rumours about them being more than friends are true or not, she joked: ‘Well, one thing that is definitely for sure is, we are doing a lot of dancing.’

This is Kai’s first year on the show, having previously performed on the Irish version of Dancing With The Stars.

Discussing his experience of the competition so far, he said: ‘It’s just been brilliant, every single week has been amazing.
