The Lap of Lights event in the Silverstone circuit finally opened for tourists on 25th November. The famous light and laser drive is only one of its kind in the UK. The event was kicked off by the 2019 World Championship-winning Mercedes AMG W-10 car with Anthony Davidson behind the wheel. Nevertheless, this unique event gives the visitors an opportunity to drive in this awe-inspiring circuit amid 440 laser beams and 400,000 festive lights.
Lap of lights is a world-hopping experience for visitors. They get to travel from Silverstone to San Francisco, Paris to the Pyramids. However, the absolute delight for fans was the pre-event where they could witness the Mercedes W-10 under the laser lights.

An exhilarating start to the event by Mercedes W-10
2014 World Endurance Champion Anthony Davidson opened the event in Hamilton’s car. After a few opening laps, the car came to a halt at Hamilton Straight for a visit from Santa. The Santa took a closer look at the car alongside Anthony. Stuart Pringle, Managing Director at Silverstone, believes that this was an ideal way to open this event. Notably, Silverstone is the home track of the seven-times World Champion.
“Anthony and Mercedes-AMG Petronas have put on a great show and I could not think of a more fitting way to open Lap of Lights. I have had to reassure Father Christmas that the rest of our nights will be run at a more subdued pace as I think he got a bit of a shock this evening when he saw the W10 approach his grotto at speed!,” said Stuart Pringle as reported by Autoexpress.

A mixed experience for Anthony Davidson
Davidson said that he really enjoyed the event, and it was an incredible and sometimes scary experience for him. “That was really exhilarating in the dark following the lights around the circuit although it was a bit scary at times. The team has really enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit and putting on this very sparkling show for everyone who has joined us here this evening!”

Visitors can also enjoy skating in the all-new Ice Trak in the Formula1 pitlane and garages with a pizza van and a hot drinks bar to complete this experience. The Lodge will be open to all ticket holders and features festive, where all ages can warm up, refuel, and relax while DJ Santa entertains from his decks. Nevertheless, it is quite an experience to have on this iconic circuit, which hosts an electrifying race every year.
