Gervonta Davis Recalls ‘Playing’ With Teofimo Lopez in Sparring

Today, a potential fight between Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez can allure the whole combat world. However, the duo has already locked horns in the past back when they weren’t superstars. Having embraced boxing at an early age, Lopez and Davis became professionals pretty quickly.

Meanwhile, they were also fortunate to taste each other’s prowess. Lopez and Davis have reportedly sparred several times at the gym. And although we don’t have many credible footages to see who was the better man, ‘Tank’ Davis has recalled himself to have held the top spot.

Ahead of Teofimo Lopez’s title defense against George Kambosos Jr, WBA titlist Gervonta Davis sat down with Fight Hub. ‘Tank’ recalled the sparring sessions and bashed out Lopez’s chances against him.

Gervonta Davis said, “I was playing with him. I was playing with a kid.”

“Back then, I was, I think I even sparred somebody else before that. I was just working with him.”

Gervonta Davis is already a three-division world champion with a record of 26-0 under his name. On the contrary, Lopez Jr is 16-0 and is currently the unified lightweight world champion. It’s clear that both men have seen legitimate success in their respective rides. But unless they collide in-ring at the pro stage, the questions regarding their supremacy will remain intact.

Well, both men have their respective fights on board. Following Lopez vs Kambosos Jr, Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA belt against Issac Cruz in December. And on winning their respective fights, we can expect a potential unification ahead.
