Strictly Come Dancing star John Whaite posted a sweet message on his Instagram page after his Argentine Tango with Johannes Radebe on Saturday night thrilled both fans and the judging panel.

John and Johannes remain one of the favourites to win the competition, after being tipped by the bookmakers early on.

The pair are the show’s first all-male partnership and their latest dance saw them take on the notoriously difficult Argentine Tango which received very high praise indeed.

They picked up three 10s and narrowly missed out on a perfect score after Craig Revel Horwood felt it fell slightly short.

Despite Craig’s nine, he gave the duo some very poignant feedback, telling them how ‘fantastic’ it was to be able to see the dance performed in its original form, with two men locked in symbolic mortal combat.

After the madness of Saturday night died down, John posted a snap from the couple’s dance on Sunday on his Instagram page with a beautiful message alongside.

He captioned it: ‘I still feel so lucky to live in a world where I can dance with another man on Saturday night television and for it to be so unquestionably accepted; for it to be about the dance and the steps we take for the 90 seconds we are on the stage.

‘A very special thanks to @maria_tsiatsiani_official @leandropalou1 and @leodicocco from the @londontangoacademy for teaching @johannesradebe and me how to dance what was a beautiful, traditional Argentine Tango.

‘Thank you for sharing your art with us and for trusting us. It has been an honour and privilege to work with you,’ he said.

John’s friends and fans soon flocked to the comments, with many of his fellow Strictly stars showing their support underneath the post.

AJ Odudu said: ‘Such a STUNNING performance,’ while Karen Hauer added: ‘All the love.’

It’s A Sin showrunner Russell T Davies called the routine ‘Absolutely magnificent,’ with Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander commenting: ‘You were both amazing !!!’

The pair were delighted to have received such positive comments for their routine on Saturday, with John telling host Claudia Winkleman: ‘We’ve found us again this week. We said it’s me and you, and nothing else matters.’

They were even treated to a cameo from national treasure Mary Berry, who helped crown John the winner of the Great British Bake Off back in 2013.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.20pm on BBC One.
