“When You Sleep Tonight……”: Alexander Bublik Hilariously Uses Daniil Medvedev’s US Open 2019 Comments

As much as the US Open 2021 victory would have pleased Daniil Medvedev, fans would realize that it the seed for the triumph was initially planted in 2019, where the Russian had a phenomenal run on hard-courts. Medvedev reached his first-ever Grand Slam final in New York that year.

Also, no one on the current ATP lot might know better about being an on-court villain than Daniil Medvedev. During his run to the finals at the 2019 US Open, the Russian faced adversity from the crowd and it took a while before they embraced him during the trophy presentation speech.

Alexander Bublik refers Daniil Medvedev as ‘Legend’ after win at Davis Cup Finals

Cut to the Davis Cup Finals, Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik took Medvedev’s quotes and used it in the post-match interview as he defeated Vasek Pospisil and took his country to the quarter-finals.

As one legend say, when you go to sleep, guys, know that I win because of you!”, Bublik said when asked about always putting up best performances for team Kazakhstan.

It was evident that ‘the legend’ Bublik mentioned was none other than Daniil Medvedev. For the unknown, Medvedev used the exact words while responding to the constant booing of the crowd during his third-round match against Feliciano Lopez at Flushing Meadows in 2019.

I want all of you to know when you sleep tonight, I won because of you. The more you do this, the more I will win for you guys”.

Medvedev turned from being an unlikable figure to being a personality that is admired and respected by tennis fans.

Medvedev knows a thing or two about being an on-court ‘villain’

Even against Novak Djokovic this year, the world no.2 had to be the ‘villain’ once again in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

With majority of the crowd rooting for the Serb to achieve the Calendar Slam, Medvedev was in no mood to allow it to happen as he defeated Djokovic in straight sets to clinch his first-ever Grand Slam title.

Through his consistent performances, Daniil Medvedev deservedly gets all the respect he enjoys currently on the ATP tour as he continues to be the torch-bearer for his peers like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev in their quest to win a major title by defeating the Big-3.
