Great British Bake Off winner Giuseppe Dell’Anno reveals series WhatsApp group is going strong: ‘They’re the first people I speak to in the morning’

Great British Bake Off winner Giuseppe Dell’Anno has revealed he still really close with his fellow contestants, and speaks to them everyday on WhatsApp.

The baker was crowned winner of this year’s series, which made him the first Italian to take home the grand prize.

Similarly to last year, the stars had to form a bubble due to Covid-19 restrictions, so naturally everyone grew close.

Giuseppe was Monday’s guest on Lorraine, which marked his first interview since his triumphant win. The 61-year-old presenter asked him if everyone has managed to keep in touch since the Channel 4 show wrapped in July.

‘We’ve got a WhatsApp group and they’re the first people I speak to in the morning and the last people I speak to in the evening.

‘I’m hoping it’s going to last because I love all of them,’ he said.

Lorraine also spoke on behalf of all Bake Off fans, and said she wanted Giuseppe and Jürgen to host a spin-off show together, however the star simply responded by laughing, so we might have to take that as a maybe for now.

The final saw Giuseppe, Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira tasked with making exquisite carrot cakes, Belgian buns, and a showstopper dessert inspired by the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party from Alice In Wonderland.

Although he suceeded in every task, Giuseppe admitted that the last challenge was the most ‘daunting’

‘Preparing that was harder than everything else, because we got all the briefs only a couple of weeks before, but we had to prepare it while we were preparing the other episodes,’ he added.

The star impressed judges  Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood throughout the competition, and proved himself as a strong contender.

Reacting to the victory, he said: ‘There are no words, I’m speechless for once.

‘All I can think of is the reaction from my mum and dad.

‘The fact is that everything I have done to deserve this comes from (dad’s) heritage, it’s the best thank you note I can possibly send him.’

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV, and all episodes of The Great British Bake Off are available on All 4.
