‘Are You Crazy?’- Daniel Cormier Confronts Khamzat Chimaev for Saying He Will Destroy Him in a Wrestling Match

Khamzat Chimaev burst onto the UFC in 2020 with a win over John Phillips. ‘Borz’ then followed that up with wins over Rhys McKee, and Gerald Meerschaert in just a few days’ time. Chimaev established himself as a superstar in the UFC after his 17-second knockout win over Meerschaert.

Chimaev has never been one to shy away from a challenge. Over the past few hours, Chimaev issued a challenge to a number of people including Brock Lesnar. However, ‘Borz’ might have bitten off more than he can chew with his call out of Daniel Cormier. He said, “Let’s make a wrestling match brother what you think?”

Daniel Cormier replied to the challenge saying, “Wait what?@KChimaev said he would wrestle me? In a wrestling match?”. ‘DC’ followed that up with, “In a real wrestling match? Are you crazy love that you’re confident but brother this is 10-0 DC!”

‘Borz’ recently participated in a freestyle wrestling match against the much bigger Jack Hermansson. The match took place at 187-pounds and consisted of two, three-minute rounds. ‘Borz’ who competes in the UFC’s welterweight division secured a win over Hermansson who competed at 185-pounds.

Khamzat Chimaev to return to action early next year

‘Borz’ secured three UFC wins in just 66-days with the promotion. However, testing positive for COVID-19 meant that he was out of action for close to a year due to lingering after-effects of the virus. In his return fight, he took on a dangerous fighter in Li Jingliang. ‘Borz’ made it look easy as he rag-dolled his opponent on the way to a three-minute sixteen-second submission win.

Many believe that Chimaev is now just one win away from securing a title fight. Needless to say, his next opponent will be the toughest he has faced to date. The likes of Vicente Luque, Gilbert Burns, Leon Edwards are all names that could potentially stand across the octagon from ‘Borz’ in the not too distant future. It will be interesting to see who the UFC matches up their star prospect up against.
