House of Gucci director Ridley Scott rages as Gucci heirs call Al Pacino’s Aldo ‘fat, short and ugly’

House of Gucci filmmaker Ridley Scott has furiously hit back at the Gucci family for insulting his film, particularly the casting of Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci.

The hugely anticipated film boasts a star-studded cast, most notably Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani, Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, and a supporting cast including Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Irons and more.

Not everyone is impressed by the cast however, as the real-life Gucci family wrote a letter complaining about their representation on-screen.

Patricia Gucci, the only daughter of Aldo Gucci, took particular displeasure with Pacino being cast to play her father, saying it was ‘shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all’.

She called veteran actor Pacino’s version of her father ‘fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly’.

A furious Scott has now told Total Film that the Gucci family’s response was ‘alarmingly insulting’, and they should count themselves ‘f***ing lucky’.

‘The people that were writing from the family to us at the onset were alarmingly insulting, saying that Al Pacino did not represent physically Aldo Gucci in any shape or form,’ Scott said.

‘And yet, frankly, how could they be better represented than by Al Pacino? Excuse me! You probably have the best actors in the world, you should be so f***ing lucky.’

Since Scott’s interview, the Gucci family have again come out and said they are unhappy with the film, issuing a statement on Monday which said it was ‘an insult to the legacy on which the brand is built today’.

According to The Guardian, the family take issue with how Gaga’s character Reggiani, who hires a hitman to kill her husband, is ‘indulged’ as a ‘victim’ rather than a killer.

‘Gucci is a family that lives honouring the work of its ancestors’, the statement reads, ‘whose memory does not deserve to be disturbed to stage a spectacle that is untrue and which does not do justice to its protagonists.’

Scott’s House of Gucci is based on a true story, though how close-to-life the film is has been a point of debate.

The film is based on the non-fiction book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara G. Forden.

It focuses on Patrizia and Maurizio’s tumultuous marriage, leading up to Maurizio’s murder in 1995.
