Kyle Petty Announces Devastating News

Kyle Petty recently shared the unfortunate news of his aunt Lea passing away. Petty is the son of the greatest driver in the history of NASCAR, Richard Petty. In fact, their family have seen four generations of race car drivers. The Pettys are legends in their own right, a dynasty in NASCAR. But now, one of them has passed on.

Petty posted a heartfelt tribute on his Twitter account. He updates his followers with the news of her aunt’s passing, how she almost made it to 100 and how she was always supportive of his music.

“Today we celebrated the life of my great aunt Lea. She passed just a few months shy of her 100th birthday and was my dad’s last living aunt. I’m so grateful for the time we had with her. She always supported my music and came to several of my shows. The greatest generation…”

Kyle Petty, the race car driver and the musician

Although Kyle couldn’t replicate the highs of his father, Richard’s career, he still managed to have a decent race career. Petty’s career spanned almost three decades in which he won 8 races and finished 173 times in the top 10.

Currently, Petty works as a commentator for NBC Sports.

But Petty has always had the talent of a country singer that came into notice ever since he opened for Janie Fricke in 1986. And it was after his retirement that Petty truly found his own voice. The musician who used to cover songs had started to sing his own heartfelt lyrics with a blend of country-folk music.

They say music soothes the soul. Hopefully, Petty will be singing a song or two in remembering his aunt and his son, the ones that have departed.

Kyle Petty also lost his son, Adam, during a practice session in 2000. At the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the first fourth-generation athlete in all the sports and a promising driver, Adam’s car crashed head-on into the wall and resulted in his tragic death.

We hope Kyle Petty and his family have strength in this difficult time.
