Michael K. Williams docuseries Black Market, has returned for a second series and will feature the late actor’s final on-screen work, before his accidental drug overdose.

Vice TV dropped the trailer for the upcoming season, which will debut on January 10 2022, and according to Variety, Williams had completed most of the work on the new episode before his death in September.

The intimate programme sees the actor become a real-life investigative journalist, entering the dangerous world of underground illicit trade, from gambling in New York to credit card scams.

Williams, who was best known for his role as Omar Little in The Wire, hosts the show, which offers a look into the lives of people operating in unethical markets, and explores how shadow economies have evolved since season one.

In the trailer’s opening monologue, Williams says: ‘Our goal is just to simply, show the world a window as to why people do the things they do. As they say, when the system fails you, you create your own system.’

Viewers can also see Williams putting a number of people on the spot with some hard hitting questions, and he even encounters a fraudster who started ‘scamming at 11-years-old’.

In a joint statement, executive producers Ben Freedman, Dion Sapp, Matthew Horowitz, David Laven and Matt Goldman said: ‘While completing Black Market has been very difficult given the loss of Michael, it’s also been extremely rewarding to bring his vision for this season to the finish line.’

The Boardwalk Empire star was found dead in the living room of his penthouse on September 2022 by his nephew.

The Medical Examiner has ruled that the case of death was acute intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine, according to TMZ.
