Miriam Margolyes has revealed that there have been nights when she thought she might die before she wakes up.

In the most recent episode of Miriam and Alan: Lost in Scotland, the 80-year-old actress had an honest talk about ageing with co-host Alan Cumming, 56, and the star described the process as ‘bloody awful.’

The deep discussion took a turn when Miriam admitted there have been nights that she thought could have been her last.

She said: ‘At night, I think, “Will I wake up in the morning?”, then I do.’

Alan asked the star if she has the same disturbing thought every night, to which she replied: ‘I think, “Maybe tonight is the night I don’t wake up.”

‘It makes me feel miserable, and then in the morning I wake up and I’m alright again.’

Channel 4’s official Twitter account shared the poignant conversation on and wrote: ‘Getting old gracefully is for losers, right?’

The third and final episode of travel series, which shows both actors driving through Scotland, airs tonight, and so far fans have appreciated the duo for bringing in the laughs.

One fan said: ‘Whoever came up with the concept of having Miriam and Alan traveling around Scotland deserves a medal. Light relief and brilliant viewing.’

Another chimed in with: ‘What a great watch this is. I love Miriam anyway but her and Alan have a lovely friendship.’

In the first chapter of the three-part special, the Harry Potter actress slates Madonna and claims the global icon is ‘over.’

Alan struggled to hold back his laughter and insisted Miriam rephrase her statement.

‘You can’t live your life being frightened of Madonna, let her be frightened of you darling,’ she teased.

Miriam and Alan: Lost in Scotland airs tonight at 9.15pm on Channel 4.
