“What Else Does This Man Need To Do?”: Alexander Zverev Gutted With Lionel Messi Winning Ballon d’Or Over Robert Lewandowski

German tennis player Alexander Zverev has had a promising year this season. The 24-year-old won six singles titles on the tour this season. Besides concentrating on tennis, Zverev has kept an eye on other sports as well.

Yesterday, the Ballon d’Or awards for football were announced. It’s the most prestigious individual award in European football. Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or, and for the men, the choice came down to Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Alexander Zverev believes Lewandowski should’ve won the Ballon d’Or over Lionel Messi

The Argentine footballing great edged past the Polish star and ended up winning his record-extending 7th Ballon d’Or award. However, Alexander Zverev was not happy with the decision and felt it should have been Lewandowski who should have taken the golden ball home instead. The German has been a long-time supporter of the club that Lewa represents in club football, and thus, it’s no surprise to see him back the striker.

Lewandowski had one of the greatest ever seasons for a striker the year before last and was widely touted as the favorite for the award in 2020. But, due to the Covid pandemic, the award was not given last year.

He went on to social media and posted a story that stated, “What else does this man need to do to win the Ballon d’Or.” Besides the German tennis player, there were many others on social media who felt the same as Zverev.

He ended the season on an amazing note, winning the ATP Finals for the second time in his career. The 24-year-old player also ended the year as the World No. 3 player. The improvement in his game was clearly visible towards the end of 2021. All eyes will be on him in the upcoming 2022 season. We wish him the best of luck.
