You could save hundreds on Christmas decorations with our six tips
CHRISTMAS is set to be a brash and colourful affair after Covid put a dampener on last year’s festivities.
So today I look at some of the top festive decoration trends and how to follow them while keeping to a budget.

COUNTRY LIFE: A big home-ware fashion this year was “cottagecore”, which is all about imagining yourself in a cosy country cottage. Tesco’s mini hessian stocking and sleigh hanging decorations, £2.75 and £1.75, work well with the theme. But grab some decs from outdoors too. Pine cones, holly sprigs and ivy strands all look great and, best of all, are free.
TRAD FAB: Traditional festive colours create great ambience. Grab Tesco’s 24-pack of forest-green baubles for just £5, working out at about 21p each. Red and green Christmas table covers are £1 at The Range and Asda’s red and gold tinsel is £1 for three metres.
GO FOR GLAM: Decorations are expected to be extra-extravagant this year to make up for last year. Welcome your guests with Robert Dyas’ LED candy cane stakes to light up pathways, £19.99 down from £29.99, and its wall-mounted light-up stag for indoor use, £21.99. I also love Homebase’s sleigh projectors, down to £15 from £20.
FESTIVE FIRE: Mantelscaping is a new trend involving pimping up your mantelpiece — and what better time than at Christmas? You can do it cheaply with ManoMano’s 33ft garlands for £11.10, down from £17, and Ikea’s four Christmas candles for just £3.
POT LUCK: I love a poinsettia at this time of year but won’t be getting Marks & Spencer’s £30 planter. Instead, I’ll get a few £2.50 pots from B&Q.
WREATH EASY: A wreath will cost you just £10 from a discounter like Poundshop. But I’m getting a make-your-own kit from Matalan for £8 — all the more fun!
