Christmas 2021: What to watch on Disney Plus – from Encanto to Hawkeye

There’s plenty coming to Disney Plus this December (Picture: Disney; Twentieth Century Fox)

There are few things better at Christmas than curling up with a cuppa and watching a good festive film.

Thankfully, this year there are plenty to choose from, with Disney Plus supplying plenty of family-friendly flicks, including new releases and old faves.

From The Santa Clause films and Die Hard (yes, it’s a Christmas film and we’ll hear no more on it) for those feeling festive to Hawkeye and The Book of Boba Fett for those fans who aren’t quite ready to put up their Christmas tree, there’s plenty to keep you going this winter.

So, get the kettle on and let us do the rest – here are our top choices!

Hawkeye – November 24

Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld star in the series (Picture: Disney+)

Marvel fans won’t be wanting for something to stream, with the Hawkeye series having already premiered.

Starring Jeremy Renner as the Avenger and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, you don’t need to look much further for your superhero fix.

The Wonder Years – December 22

The new series is based on the ABC hit (Picture: AP)

Set in the 1960s, The Wonder Years is a coming of age story focused on a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, told through the point of view of imaginative 12-year-old Dean.

Don Cheadle stars in the flick, which is inspired by the ABC series.

Encanto – December 24

Encanto is Disney’s latest magical animated flick (Picture: AP)

Encanto recently hit cinemas, but you’ll also get your chance to stream the magical animated flick from December 24 onwards.

It tells the story of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, where every child has a power, except one – Mirabel.

However, when she discovers her family is in danger, it’s up to Mirabel to put things right.

The Book of Boba Fett – December 29

Star Wars fans – get ready (Picture: Disney)

Star Wars fans – this one’s for you!

The new series follows legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand.

A spin-off from The Mandalorian, it will consist of seven episodes.

Frozen and Frozen 2

Who isn’t already obsessed tbh? (Picture: Disney)

The franchise that needs no introduction!

Frozen and Frozen 2 are already ready and waiting to watch, with Idina Menzel starring as Elsa, the Princess who learns to embrace her icy powers with the help of her sister Anna (Kristen Bell).

For the die-hard fans, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and Olaf Presents are also available to watch.

Home Alone 1-6

What an icon (Picture: 20th Century Fox)

Because there is nothing more Christmassy than Home Alone! Truly, this franchise needs a whole day’s worth of streaming, with fans ready to give their verdict on the new sequel, Home Sweet Home Alone.

In the originals, though, Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin McCalister, the kid who’s left all alone one Christmas before chaos ensues.

A true classic!

Die Hard 1-5 (from December 3)

Bruce Willis stars in the Christmas (yes, Christmas) film (Picture: Twentieth Century Fox)

First things first, Die Hard is a Christmas film!

Now that’s out the way, all five flicks will be available to watch from December 3.

Starring Bruce Willis as John McClane, it’s also a chance to see the late, great Alan Rickman in one of his most famous roles, as Hans Gruber.

The Santa Clause 1-3

Tim Allen stars as the unsuspecting Santa (Picture: Disney)

Some love it, some hate it, but the Santa Clause is an absolute Christmas staple either way.

Starring Tim Allen as the unsuspecting dad recruited as the new Santa, it’s sure to get you feeling festive.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

A Christmas staple (Picture: Disney)

It’s a must-watch every year and 2021 is certainly no different!

The 1992 flick stars a cast of your favourite muppets, and sees them take on a (slightly loose but by no means inferior) adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

Pure escapism (Picture: Disney)

If Tilda Swinton as the White Witch isn’t a reason alone to watch this, then we don’t know what to tell you.

We’ve definitely needed some major escapism over the past couple of years and there’s nothing that does it quite like Narnia.
