Magnus Carlsen Will Not Share His Birthday Cake With Arch-Rival for This Hilarious Reason

Once again, the match between Magnus Carlsen and Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi ended in a draw. The fourth game of the World Chess Championship Series saw both these players finishing on level terms. With Nepo’s defense, Carlsen could not muster a perfect sequence to take the game away from Ian.

Performing well under pressure is a quality that helps an athlete in the long term. Notably, Carlsen does that in the most perfect way. However, when asked about sharing his birthday cake with Ian, he gave a rather vain response.

The birthday boy who turned 31, Carlsen, would’ve hoped to win his fourth match against Nepo. However, he failed to exhibit his dominance on the board. Hence, he appeared in no mood to share his treats with his opposition.

“With the history of the world championship matches, I don’t think you would accept any piece of food from the opposing team ever,” said Carlsen.

Competitiveness is always at another level with Magnus. While he is the best chess player out there, Nepo is not far behind in terms of quality. The latest draw finished in 2 hours and 37 minutes, with fans dubbing this to be the best chess match played in the World Championships.

He remains focused

Despite being a three-time World Champion, Carlsen remains focused on winning this tie as well. After the game, he spoke about not being pressurized to win the game and remains calm throughout the match.

“When you play a forced line as today, you don’t expect to hit very often. But the idea is to hit once in a while, take your opponent by surprise, and the other times you’ve usually got to be very safe. Obviously, I would have loved to win, would have loved to find more chances than I did, but I think overall it’s a normal result against a world-prepared opponent,” said Carlsen.
