Michael Jordan’s Iconic Chicago Restaurant Was Called “Mediocre” and He Took It Personally

The phenomenon of celebrities owning restaurants and steakhouses that bear their names is not new. Consequently, many fans visit there due to the owner’s name and background rather than the quality of the food. It does not pay to take it so far as naming steakhouses by your name just for the sake of advertising if you are getting called the literal greatest of all time. As in the case of Michael Jordan, according to Thrillist, it is not his first time branding a steakhouse after him in Chicago, but before that, he developed a project of the Glazier Group in New York City in 1997.

Steakhouse theme isn’t much different from the ’90s as of today. Because there isn’t a sports theme, everything is designed to showcase their brand as “Michael Jordan the businessman,” The aim is to build an environment that is so well-set up that even a businessman can have a peaceful dinner.

It is based on the concept of “stockmanship,” which is a philosophy that explains “a belief in steak, not sizzle.”

What is Michael Jordan Steakhouse?

The 1997 New York restaurant owned by Michael Jordan wasn’t his first one. Three years earlier, in 1994, he opened his very first restaurant in Chicago, named Michael Jordan’s Restaurant.

Although it wasn’t a great hit, it did get a bad review from the people of the area, who called it “a tourist trap that draws visitors from the unbelievable popularity of its namesake.” in the Chicago Tribune. Based on reviews, it seems as if Michael Jorden’s fame and popularity held that restaurant together, not the food itself.

What is Michael Jordan’s Net Worth?

Throughout Michael Jordan’s career, he won six titles with the Chicago Bulls, making him the NBA’s greatest player of all time. Although his total earnings were estimated at $90 million during his career, through endorsements and corporate partnerships with Nike, Hanes, and Gatorade he was able to make around $1.8 billion (pre-tax).

As a result of all his hard work, he became a co-owner of NASCAR in late 2020. His net worth is currently $1.6 billion.
