Money Heist fans rejoice! The series might be drawing to a close as the release date for season 5 part 2 arrives this week, but it isn’t the end of the story, as a spin-off starring Pedro Alonso’s character Berlin is set to arrive on Netflix.

Ever since Berlin, the terminally-ill and conniving brother of the Professor (Álvaro Morte), died in the second season of the Spanish heist drama, fans have wondered how he would continue to be a part of the tale.

The character has returned on a regular basis in the form of flashbacks, shedding light on the backstories of the Professor and gang member Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna), as well as some of Berlin’s old heists involving his son, Rafael (Patrick Criado).

Ahead of the launch of the final episodes of Money Heist, Pedro was speaking at a fan event when he confirmed the news.

The actor said that he was ‘so happy’ about the upcoming show, which is titled Berlin and will premiere in 2023.

‘I am deeply grateful to be able to connect with people all over the world and receive so much love and such a memorable time,’ he said, TVLine reported.

‘We started this series walking into the unknown and we have been winning ever since. You fans are our accomplices and thank you for that.’

Several Money Heist fans celebrated the news, with one tweeting: ‘My show Money Heist about to come to an end Friday, but we gonna get a Berlin spinoff series in the future!? Nice!’

Some also expressed their wish for more spin-offs with other characters, including Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) and Nairobi (Alba Flores).

If Money Heist are willing to expand on Berlin’s story, why not the other fan-favourites too?

During a press conference attended by Metro.co.uk, the creators and cast of Money Heist opened up on what viewers can expect when the final five episodes are released.

Teasing an ‘emotional’ ending, Álvaro recalled what it was like to film his final scene as the Professor, explaining that he ended up working with the same camera crew as on his very first day.

‘In this type of shooting, there are different teams, camera people and so on and the day I finished, I actually finished with the same team that was shooting with me the very first day, so it was beautiful,’ he said.

‘I wasn’t by myself, and it was very emotional. I was bawling.’

Money Heist season 5 part 2 premieres on Friday December 3 on Netflix.
