The Witcher star Freya Allan has recalled the shock when Henry Cavill injured himself on the set of season 2, revealing that she was there at the time.

In December 2020, it was revealed that production of the hit Netflix fantasy series had been suspended after the Geralt actor sustained a nasty leg injury.

Following a brief hiatus, the show was back on track with the leading man in recovery, sharing a photo on social media in January of himself going for a jog as he got ‘back into the groove’.

During the premiere of The Witcher season two, Metro.co.uk spoke to Freya, who plays Princess Cirilla of Cintra, otherwise known as Ciri, in the drama, who is under the protection of Geralt in the new episodes.

Freya explained that she had just done the exact same activity as Henry when he hurt himself, with it later emerging that he had torn his hamstring.

‘I was actually there, and I had just been doing the same thing that he was doing when he injured himself, because we had to both do it,’ she said.

‘So I was kind of like, “Oh my god, is he alright?” And I think he went straight to the doctors and things.’

However, amid the horror of the injury, Freya did jokingly admit that there was one silver lining given the incident occurred near the festive period.

‘But we got an earlier Christmas break, so that was great!’ she added.

The second season of The Witcher will see Geralt take Ciri to his home Kaer Morhen, where he was raised and trained to become a witcher.

While there, Ciri will undertake some training of her own, from Geralt’s father-figure Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) and his witcher comrades.

Freya recollected how much fun they all had together, as the ‘dynamic’ that the group had in real life was reflected on screen.

When asked what some of her favourite memories were with the actors portraying the witchers, Freya said: ‘I think for me it was just when we were all together, me and Paul [Bullion] and Yas [Yasen Atour] and Henry and Kim, I just think, we’re all such kind of… we had such a laugh, and they’re all so funny.

She continued: ‘The dynamic of all our characters in real life and also on screen just blended really nicely.’

The Witcher season 2 launches on Netflix on December 17.
