“It Could be Just One Match”: Tomas Berdych Talks About Roger Federer Retirement

The former World No. 4, Tomas Berdych recently spoke on the much-awaited comeback of Roger Federer. Federer opted to stay away from tennis since his knee injury at Wimbledon 2021. However, he is aiming to return to the tour pretty much in mid-2022. Berdych believes it would be really challenging for the 40-years-old.

Moreover, the 2010 Wimbledon finalist thinks Federer will have to mentally prepare himself for ‘one last match’. Berdych also confidently said the Swiss has nothing to prove, his records speak enough for him.

Tomas Berdych comments on Roger Federer’s comeback

One of the rivals of Roger Federer, Tomas Berdych has remarked his statements on the return of the Swiss. Former World No. 4 feels Federer should make a call on playing his last match or tournament.

In an interview with Reuters, Berdych quoted, ” He maybe wants to come back on court and maybe make the call and whether he’s going to play his last tournament, for his huge fan base around the world, but if he doesn’t it’s fine.”

In addition, the Czech is amazed by the amazing career of Federer and said, ” He has nothing to prove so it’s down to him how he feels and how he wants to do it at the end of the day.”

Berdych said the 40-years-old knows the level of the game more than anyone, however, he’ll have to mentally prepare himself for ‘one last ride’.

“He’s going to try to prepare himself as best as possible and he’s experienced enough to know that it won’t happen at one tournament. But I think in this situation he needs to be mentally ready to know that it could be just one match, even if he’s done everything possible,” stated Tomas Berdych.
