The Witcher star Anya Chalotra has opened up about Yennefer’s journey in season 2, teasing how the fan-favourite will ‘find herself’ in the epic tale.

In the season one finale of the Netflix series, the fate of sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg is left uncertain after the Battle of Sodden Hill, when she unleashed her fiery power against the forces of Nilfgaard.

Having previously forged a strong, romantic connection with Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), it remains to be seen where Yennefer’s path will lead in the new episodes – although viewers do know from the trailer that the mage will finally meet Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), who’s now under the witcher’s protection.

At the world premiere of season two in London’s Leicester Square, Metro.co.uk spoke to Anya about what awaits her character, with the actor outlining how she’s set to go on a unique trajectory.

‘I think Yennefer gets an opportunity this season to really find herself, and I don’t think in the world of survival and facade you can really do that in The Witcher or get to the root of yourself, cause there’s so much going on,’ the 25-year-old said.

‘There’s so many brutal things happening around you, but Yennefer gets a chance to do that this season, so I’m excited for you to see that.’

When asked what she’s especially excited for fans to get to see in the upcoming episodes, Anya said that she’s looking forward to the scenes showing Geralt and Ciri at Kaer Morhen, which is where the witcher was trained to become a monster-hunter as a child.

‘Geralt and Ciri going to Kaer Morhen, Yennefer and Ciri meeting, and everything in between. The new monsters that are just amazing. The CGI on this is going to blow your mind,’ she replied.

While the release date is now just a couple of weeks away, filming for season two faced a significant disruption when Henry sustained a nasty leg injury, following delays that had already occurred due to the pandemic.

Freya revealed to Metro.co.uk that she was there on the day of the incident, recalling how the Superman star was rushed to the doctor.

‘I was actually there, and I had just been doing the same thing that he was doing when he injured himself, because we had to both do it,’ she said.

‘So I was kind of like, “Oh my god, is he alright?” And I think he went straight to the doctors and things.’

The Witcher season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 17.
