Dermot O’Leary was visibly bemused on today’s This Morning while speaking to a woman who spent a huge amount of money on her dog, urging her to donate to charity as well.

On Friday’s edition of the show, Alison Hammond and Dermot were joined by Lisa from Pontypridd, Wales and her dog Fabio, who was decked out in a lavish, festive-themed outfit.

Lisa revealed – much to the co-presenters shock – that this year, she spent £20,000 on the Chinese Crested Powderpuff, which included £4,000 just on Christmas presents for the pooch.

What’s more, the pet owner also admitted that the bedazzled bow around Fabio’s neck cost £1,250 and is embellished with Swarovski crystals, as Dermot held his head in his hands.

At one point, Dermot asked (while doing a lacklustre dog impression): ‘Lisa, do you think there’s a world where if Fabio could talk, he’d go: “Mum, I love you very much, but can you give some money to Battersea?”’

Lisa didn’t appear to hear the question clearly, as she light-heartedly replied: ‘We’re psychically linked,’ while snuggling with her dog.

However, later in the interview, she said that she is known for her charitable nature, stating: ‘Everyone knows I’m a big charity worker as well, I give a lot to charity.’

She explained that she likes to spend money on her dog because she doesn’t have any children, adding that her perspective on life changed when her mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Lisa said that after her mum’s life was ‘snatched away from her’ when she was given six months to live, she decided that with so much ‘doom and gloom’ in the world, spoiling her dog ‘actually makes me happy’.

‘I’m glad you’re happy, and that’s the most important thing,’ Dermot said at the end of the interview.

Several viewers remarked on Dermot’s reactions to their guest, with one saying that they thought he was ‘losing his mind’ over the amount of money spent on Fabio.

‘£20,000 on a dog that doesn’t give a s**t is obscene. She may do stuff for charity but she could do more by not spoiling a dog,’ another tweeted.

‘Love how @radioleary is trying so hard not to sound judgy. It’s not working, but I love how he’s trying,’ someone else said.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
