Queen Zelina Vega urges WWE stars to be ‘flexible’ because company ‘recognises hardest working talent’

Queen Zelina Vega has urged WWE superstars to be as ‘flexible’ as possible.

The inaugural Queen’s Crown winner – who has become one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Carmella just weeks after winning the tournament at Crown Jewel – has insisted Vince McMahon and ‘the office’ value a strong work ethic, and she said it won’t go unnoticed.

Asked if she feels like she’s hit her stride after becoming Queen, she exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I feel like it’s work to get in, work to stay in.

‘As long as you’re putting in the hardest work that you can and making sure people around you know that, there’s no way good things won’t come and they don’t recognise that.

‘The office, they’re very good at seeing who’s working the hardest, putting in the hours and making sure they’re improving in the right, and up for anything! You have to be really flexible, and really just up for whatever – you never know what’s gonna happen.

‘There’s a difference between people who attack it and say, “Yes I’m gonna kill this”, and people who go, “Oh I don’t know if I wanna do that, I dunno…” I wanna make sure that I did everything possible that I could.’

It’s been a wild time for Zelina, who was released from WWE in November 2020 before returning months later – in turn, just weeks before her real life husband Aleister Black (now Malakai Black in AEW) was let go.

It took a bit of time for her to find her feet again in the company as she sought to establish herself as an in-ring talent after years as a manager under the WWE umbrella, but now she’s truly hitting her stride.

‘It still feels surreal. I’ve said it a bunch, but I keep feeling like I’m gonna wake up from this dream and it’s gonna be the best dream I ever had! It’s crazy to see,’ she beamed.

‘Where your road is going completely differently and you can be as low as you can get, rock bottom, there’s always a chance it’s gonna turn around. I’m the perfect story for that!

‘Even a year – now to say I’ve made history and become the queen of WWE, it’s insane. Four year old me is very happy and stoked!’

And although there have been tough moments, it’s helped having someone by her side who has an understanding of the business.

‘There’s nothing in the world like what we do,’ she pointed out. ‘To have someone who does understand that and support you fully, the value – there’s no words for it.’

It’s clear Zelina has a mentality of making the most out of every opportunity, and that’s something she’s taken a lot from without even realising the journey she’s been on.

‘In a way, I did. I had no idea what I was in for when I was younger,’ she admitted. ‘I had no idea. Going from training in New York to Florida to North Carolina, everywhere – then in Mexico, Japan.

‘Taking all those experiences and plugging them into where I am now, it’s just… I dunno, it’s really cool. You never know what you’re in for. I really hold onto that because not everybody is meant for this. When you know that you are and you can do it, it makes it that much easier.’

WrestleMania 38 takes place Saturday April 2 and Sunday April 3 at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Travel packages are now on sale.
