WATCH: Hunter Johnson Hospitalized After Being Flipped Over in Near-Fatal Crash at a Pro Truck Race
With two laps to go in the Pro Trucks feature race at Five Flags Speedway, driver Hunter Johnson suffered a horrifying crash. Johnson was below truck No.52 as he was battling ahead of turn one when contact in his left rear rendered his truck out of control. This resulted in Johnson’s car taking off the ground and clipping Steven Davis before hitting the wall roof-first.
Although Davis’s truck also suffered significant damage as his truck was left with not much of a roof, it’s Johnson who came out worst. His truck literally flew into the fence, leaving it unrecognizable. The crash was so brutal that Johnson’s truck was stripped naked down to its chassis.
Hunter Johnson and John Heil were involved in a horrific accident with three laps to go tonight in the Pro Truck feature at @5flagsSpeedway.

Even the fence was significantly damaged, as the commentators pointed out along with their shock on this horrifying crash.
But luckily, no driver was seriously injured, including Johnson. He was taken for further observation to a nearby hospital, according to Racing America.
And much to his fan’s relief, he posted a message on his Facebook (Meta) in which he revealed a minor discomfort – “I’m good everyone just a little back pain! But I’m all good! I’ll post a photo when I can!”
Hunter Johnson and his journey so far
Johnson is the son of dirt racer Mark Johnson. His journey as a race car driver began when he was only eight years old. His father had bought him a go-kart with which he quickly made his way up to Legends series and then to Pro Trucks.
In the 2020 season, his first at Five Flags, Johnson finished second in the championship with one victory. Still only 19-years of age, Johnson revealed that from his first season, he has learned how to conserve tires better. He said, “There were a couple races where I burnt up my stuff trying so hard to get to the lead and that first win.”
Earlier this year, Johnson had it’s only a ‘matter of time’ before they start winning more races.
And this is probably why he suffered the crash he did. He was going for the win, doing what he does, racing. Hopefully, this will be a learning experience for Johnson and we all hope the promising young driver can recover from this terrible crash soon.
